LaKisha Jones is a 27 year old single mother from Flint Michigan who is a contestant on the TV show American Idol. Jones sang two Aretha Franklin songs, "Think" and "Until You've come back to me" during her auditions for the talent show. After first hearing her sing, the show's brutally honest judge Simon Cowell responded "Love this girl, Love you, LaKisha. You're a good old-fashioned belter."
Jones first started singing at the age of 5 at Flint's Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She has training in both classical and opera according to her profile on Americanidol.com. She most admires the singer Whitney Houston.
Jones has a daughter named Brionne, who turned four on February 21, 2007, the same day that Jones sung during the first round of the competition. She sang "And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going" which was thought by many to be the strongest performance of the night.
LaKisha has the most raw talent of any of the contestants in season 6, and has a good chance to win the competition. There is such a contrast in personality from when she is singing - powerful and confident -- and shy and humble when not. So far, my favorite contestant.
