Microsoft has three main divisions:
1. Platform Products and Services Division, including the Windows Client Group, Server and Tools Group, and MSN Group.
This division is responsible for producing Microsoft Windows operating system, including the upcoming desktop version of Windows called Windows Vista. This version has been delayed several times, and is most likely to be released in 2007. This division is also responsbile for Microsoft's online portal, MSN, which includes its webmail service "MSN Hotmail" and its instant messaging service, "MSN Messenger." This division also includes the cable television station MSNBC.
2. Business Division, including the Information Worker Group and Microsoft Business Solutions Group
Microsoft's Information Worker group focuses on developing financial and business management software for companies. The Microsoft Business Group is responsibile for Microsoft Office, a desktop software suite that includes a word processor (Word), spreadsheet (Excel), a personal database (Access), presentation software (Powerpoint), an HTML editor (Frontpage), and a desktop publishing software (Publisher).
3. Entertainment and Devices Division, including the Home and Entertainment Group and the Mobile and Embedded Devices Group
The Entertainment and Devices group includes Microsoft's Window's CE, a variation of Microsoft's Windows operating system for small computer devices with minimal memory, e.g. PDAs. This division is also responsbile for entertainment products and software such as Xbox and computer games that run on Windows PCs. Finally, this division includes the Macintosh Business Unit, that produces versions of Microsoft Office and other software programs for the Apple Macintosh.
